Upside Down “Deep Dish” Pizza
This is kind of like a pineapple upside down cake- you cook it upside down and then flip it to eat it! I was SO impressed by how easy and yummy this was that it is now our favorite way to cook pizza at home!
Ingredients:
2 pre-made pizza crusts
2 bell peppers, sliced
1/2 onion, sliced or diced
Shredded mozzarella cheese, to your liking
Parmesan cheese, to your liking
Provolone cheese slices (about 6)
1 pound ground Italian sausage (mild or hot) or any meat of your choice
Pepperoni (about 20)
Low-Sodium Pizza sauce (about 8-10oz)
Oregano
Spinach (about a cup or more)
1 Tbsp Olive oil
Instructions:
Cook ground sausage in a skillet until no longer pink.
Preheat over to 400 degrees.
Set out a cast iron or oven-safe skillet on the counter. It is time to add the following layers! I have pictures below.
Add bell peppers (some food is leftover in the pan because this was pizza #2!)
Add the onions.
Add the spinach.
Add the pepperoni.
Add the cooked ground sausage.
Sprinkle on parmesan; amount to your liking.
Add the shredded mozzarella cheese, amount to your liking.
Lay on the provolone cheese slices.
Pour on the pizza sauce.
Sprinkle on oregano.
Time to add the pizza crust. Open the pre-made crust and stretch it out a bit to form more of a circle. You want to make sure it will cover all of the pizza toppings. Lay it over the toppings and tuck it in on the sides.
Brush on the olive oil.
Put into the oven for about 25min or until crisp, slightly brown.
We used a large cutting board to flip. Cover the pan, grab a hold, then flip them over. Remove the skillet.
Add more parmesan cheese if you wish!
